Run for your life ... and have some soup

Sports is murder. Well, if that is true, I've done quite some suicide attempts lately. So far I didn't succeed, though. Although ... I got pretty close last time. Sometimes, well quite often, I don't know what is going on in my head. Do you know how it is? Of course, you don't know what is going on in my head either. But maybe you know how it is with doing things without thinking about them too much.
So, I do some sports from time to time. Whether that helps with my chronic illness, I'm not sure. Whether it does the opposite, I'm not quite sure either. Anyway, I am feeling quite well and running also gets the head free of stress and negative thoughts and feelings and maybe sometimes of thoughts entirely.
Just yesterday, I felt like running and somehow didn't feel like stopping. I went on and on and ... well, rather it would have been time for lunch already. Maybe that wasn't such a good combination. Anyway, I ended up doing more than a half-marathon. Maybe it wasn't in a time to go for a competition, but it sure felt like passing the limit. I felt it for the rest of the day and ... yes, I am still feeling it today, although not to such an extend as I felt it yesterday. For a while I wasn't even able to do anything, which endangered my lunch even more.
Finally when I got to cook something, I could only go with what I had in the fridge. Since things got a bit more complicated around here I often don't manage to go shopping properly at the weekend to have sufficient things in the house for cooking. The problem is just that I don't do to much meal planning. I am rather a see as you go person.
Anyway. some while ago I had bought some broccoli and ... I didn't quite see to it that something was done with it properly. So I considered it needed some saving before it had to go where I never want any food to go. So I went for some soup: Broccoli soup with ... things, eh, rather ... eh ... you will see in a minute ...

Well, that it is and here is what I used.

Ingredients:
Splash of olive oil
One small onion, chopped
On clove of garlic, chopped
200 g Broccoli, stalks and all and everything, chopped
Water, depending on the desired thickness
Salt, pepper
Hand full of peas
One fresh red chilli, chopped into rings or something like that
3 spring onions, cut into rings
Some basil leaves

Method:
Get a medium sized pot and put it with the splash of olive oil on low to medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and let it go until the onions are translucent.
Then add the  broccoli and let things continue for a while until you add water for cooking the broccoli until soft. As you see on the picture, you will not really see any of the broccoli afterwards, so we don't care for anything staying in the right shape. In fact the broccoli will be just the base for the soup. If the broccoli is done, let it cool slightly, if necessary, and put everything into a liquidiser and blend, blend, blend. Season with salt and pepper.
Return the liquidised broccoli back to the pot and re-heat it. At as much water as you possible care for to achieve your desired texture. Once boiling, turn down the heat and add the chilli, peas, the spring onions and basil. Briefly heat them together with the rest. Afterwards we still want to feel the peas popping in your mouth.
Lately, I am not too good with cooking or writing, as you for sure have noticed. There simply is never enough time for all the things I want and have to do. At least I saved the broccoli. For that, I want to use the opportunity to put this post up for one of my favourite blog challenges. I would go for a second one, but I just noticed, I am too late for that one. After all, this is a very unusual day today. You don't have it too often, just every fourth year.
Anyways, I want to put it up for Elizabeth's No Waste Food Challenge. At least there I am not too late and ... I am glad, I wasn't too late for the broccoli either.

Also I like to work with leftovers in my fridge. That makes life a bit easier at times. I just noticed, it is always good to have some leftover rice in the fridge, for you can make lovely things with it, like this bowl of fried rice with egg and peas ...

As things go, so goes this post and I am ready for some more suicide attempts, well for some more sports. The other thing does not sound so good. I just hope, no one gets offended by it. For doing sports, it doesn't really help in using weight I have the feeling right now, for I am not really loosing any. That is even after quite some months. For sure I am doing something ... wrong maybe or right. I don't know. Whatsoever, hang in there!
